Nikon D60 Camera

Nikon D60 Camera

Announced by Nikon in January 2008 the Nikon D60 will come to replace the company’s previous entry level model the D40. Well designed and full of features it offers the ability to take quality photographs without the price tag of some of its rivals.

Compatible with a large range of Nikon lenses the Nikon D60 camera can be used to take excellent pictures in a variety of challenging conditions. It’s 10.2 effective mega pixels mean that sufficient detail is captured to allow for extensive editing and the use of Nikon’s excellent Expeed image processing system and noise reduction technologies mean that high levels of clarity can be maintained in the most difficult of shooting environments.

The auto focus system on the Nikon D60 is fairly slow and provides only three focus points, most competitors offer more. The AF can be slow to catch moving objects.

The camera handles very well. Relatively small in size and with a good grip, the controls are easily and ergonomically accessible. The camera looks good and maintains a distinctively Nikon character.

A nice touch is that the view finder features a proximity sensor that detects when the camera is held to the eye and shuts off the back light of the LCD screen, preventing distraction and saving battery power. The screen itself is well lit and menu functions are well laid out, but is small, especially compared with other models such as the Nikon p6000. Problems can arise with battery life as the absence of another display means that the screen must be on to make adjustments draining a lot of power. According to Nikon the battery of the Nikon D60 should be good for 500 shots on each charge, its very possible that the need to keep the screen on may significantly reduce this.
